California Heritage Cookbook
Thank you so much for the cookbook. I received it in a timely manner and it was in perfect condition. What a wonderful way to receive a book that was impossible to find before.

Best cookbook ever!
I received this cookbook in the hardback edition from a friend back in 1980. I have used and used it over and over again. There are many favorites that I have used again and again; the Tahoe Brunch and Lasagne, to name only two. Buy it an see for yourself!!

FABULOUS COOKBOOK!
I RECEIVED THE CALIFORNIA HERITAGE COOK BOOK AS A SHOWER GIFT IN 1974. I HAVE USED IT CONSISTANTLY FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER FOUND A BAD RECIPE. MY DAUGHTER IS LIVING IN AN APARTMENT WHILE ATTENDING COLLEGE AND ASKED IF SHE COULD HAVE HER FAVORITE COOKBOOK TO TAKE TO SCHOOL ... CALIFORNIA HERITAGE! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COOKBOOK TO ABSOLUTELY ANYONE WHO ENJOYS EATING OR COOKING. I AM NOW SEARCHING FOR TWO ADDITIONAL COPIES.

More Than A Cookbook
I couldn't wait to dive into the Junior League of Pasadena's Dining by Design cookbook. In addition to delicious and easy sounding recipes, it is full of all kinds of interesting nuggets of information. Things that you've always wanted to know but could never put your finger on in other cookbooks. It is also a lovely looking book, almost too pretty to be a cookbook. Try it, I think you'll really, really like it!

Junior League of Pasadena does it again!
As expected, I was not disappointed by the Junior League of Pasadena's newest edition in their series of cookbooks. I didn't think anything could top their last, "California Sizzles", but "Dining by Design" is even better! I have dozens of cookbooks that remain dusty on the shelves, but both my Junior League of Pasadena cookbooks are very well worn from all of the recipes I use. Way to go! I recommend these delicious, easy to understand, easy to prepare recipes to everyone!

Every recipe i have made has been fabulous and easy.
i recommend this book to absolutely everyone. i have yet to have a bad experience with any one of the recipes found in this beautiful book. Not only does the book contain tasty recipes but it contains valuable tips for cooking, decorating, entertaining and the like. this is a must buy for family and friends as well as for yourself. i sure hope the junior league of Pasadena, inc. will publish another:)

HANDY!
The Ultimate INSIDERS City Guide to Pasadena is so handy I keep it in my car! If I'm looking for parking, restaurants, or services, I pull out the Guide and find them in a flash.

Just Ask Martha
I love this book! As a recent transplant to Pasadena, this has become an indespensible resource for finding everything from a late-night dry cleaner to the best coffee shops to where to tune your radio station to NPR. The maps are very user-friendly and make finding your way around town a snap! I keep one in my car at all times. I wish every town had such a practical guide. Now whenever I have a question, "I just ask Martha." It's almost as good as having her in the passenger seat. Thank you Martha! This book is a life-saver.

Excellent and helpful guide!
This book is extremly helpful getting around and finding the places I need when visiting Pasadena. It is a must buy for people moving to the area or just visiting on vacation.

High Hopes: Taking the Purple to Pasadena
Published in Hardcover by DIANE Publishing Co (November, 1996)
Authors: Gary Barnett and Vahe Gregorian
Average review score:

Wonderful Book
This book in a enjoyable book that highlights Northwestern's Rose Bowl Trip. Even if you are not a NU fan you will find this book very interesting and at the end you will be cheering on NU throughout the book. It explains how Gary Barnett took a "nothing" NU football team to be top-ranked and possibly contend for the national championship.

Barnett writes about success not only in football but in life. I was so touched by this book that I wrote Barnett a letter telling him how good the book was.

You will enjoy!

Finally! College coaching the way it was meant to be!
Gary Barnett is one of those guys you'd like to have a beer with....A master of motivation and getting young people to believe in themselves (even when the facts say they shouldn't!) Barnett works from everyday experiences and personal convictions to extract the absolute best from his players. The result is not only the greatest turn around of an entire collegiate program in history, but the "release" of some truly gifted student athletes into the world. I virtually read this book in one sitting -- I simply could not put it down. Someday, I going to have to find a way to buy Barnett that beer, just to get the advance copy of his sequel. By the way, Gary, just exactly was that "horrid" event in college, for which you got into so much trouble? The intrigue is killing me

Ashes (Berkley True Crime)
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (November, 1994)

Some things you just don't want to know-but should
What are you worth dead?

Most of us prefer not to dwell on what happens to us after after the 'big lights out'.

Our disposal is someone else's concern by then.

But, we trust people in the death aftercare industry to treat our mortal remains with care and respect.

Trust no one buddy...

This true crime revelation about violent, arrogant, rogue mortician, David Sconce, will turn your stomach.

It exposes a highly lucrative industry, involving unauthorised organ removal, multiple cremation, and ash mingling.

Skinned, de-brained, de-toothed, eviscerated, there was often little left of peoples' parents and children before they were crammed into ovens like trash.

For some curious reason I usually dismiss true crime books that have no pictures as I see it as a sign of cheapness or lack of research.

Despite the absence of pictures this work is a detailed, enthralling read...excellent.

The Tradition Continues
Growing up in Alabama I had heard about the tradition of Alabama Football. The only history I was familiar with prior to this book was Paul "Bear" Bryant 70's-80's. I didn't know about the earlier years of Alabama football. After reading this book I understand the RICH Tradition of Alabama football. This book is a History book of Alabama football. I reccommend this book to any college football fans, especially Alabama fans who like me may only remember the Bryant 70's-80's years.Knowledge is the key to understanding Alabama Football. Buy the book.

Pasadena : The Early Years

A good history of the Houston area
Local histories are becoming more prevalent over the past several years, and this history covers the area south of Houston and its struggle to maintain autnomony over its massive neighbor to the north. It covers those that created the city of Pasadena, and their legacy. You get to experience cattle roundups, the railroad being built through town, the first vehicle to rumble through town, their first contact with airplanes, the Texas oil boom, and the crops that made the town famous. A few tragedies are mentioned....for some reason, most local historians don't mention a town's hardships, focusing instead on the good things that have occurred. However, it is only through tragedy that good cities and towns really come together and experience their finest hour. Overall, it is a very good work. Those interested in the area surrounding Houston to the south would enjoy the book.

Great Gift for Grandparents!
My parents grew up during this era, and I thought of them as I read this book. It was chockful of wonderful old photographs dating back to the late 1880s. The author uses humor and detail as he uses his own life to illuminate a whole generation. I highly recommend this book!
